Principles and methods of leak and damage detection technology

The required geomembrane damage detection method is the leakage damage detection method, which is a reliable and effective method for the leakage damage detection of the anti-seepage geomembrane at present.

The basic principle of geomembrane leakage damage detection is: apply an electric field to the geomembrane, and detect the position of the loop by moving the detection device in the potential field, so as to find the leakage point. There are two main methods for detecting leakage and damage of geomembrane: double electrode method and water gun method. The two-electrode method is used to detect the leakage and damage of the geomembrane covered with sand/soil, and the water jet method is suitable for detecting the leakage and damage of the exposed geomembrane without any covering. Both detection methods can meet the detection requirements of this project.

In the double-electrode geotechnical leakage damage detection method, different potentials are applied to the top and bottom (soil or water) of the geomembrane. The potential field of the soil or water covered by the geomembrane is uniform. Geomembrane is an extremely effective insulator.

When the geomembrane damage detection adopts the double-electrode method to detect the leakage and damage of the geomembrane, the inspector should pay attention to whether the site is under special industrial and mining conditions, such as whether the detection area is in electrical contact with the external soil.
